Wa-hey! My second rant in two days. Today, I will talk about the topic of high wages, for “jobs” which should be more low payed. This job that I am referring to is Footballers. In recent weeks, Chelsea’s Frank Lampard, signed a new 5 year contract. In these next 5 years, Mr. Lampard will be payed a staggering £39.2 million pounds, for simply kicking a ball towards a goal. He is now the highest payed player in the whole of England. And, not even the highest payed player in the world.
The only thing I can think of to comprehend footballers staggering pay-packages, is the fact that they can bring great happiness to hundreds of thousands of people. But this is stupid, because football isn’t as nearly as important as people’s lives.
People’s lives are saved everyday by people such as firemen, doctors, nurses, policemen and many more. Yet these people, in a whole year, earn less than most Premier League footballers earn in a single week. This is, in my opinion, an absolute disgrace. Other very important, influential, low paid jobs include, people working in industries (miners, farmers etc.), people with a trade (electricians, plumbers, builders etc.). These are the people who should be payed more.
To many people, children and adults a like, they think of footballers as their heroes. However, I believe that the people such as soldiers, policemen and firemen should be heroes. They are the everyday heroes, who put their lives on the line to save others. They are the everyday heroes who go unnoticed by most people, but bring great happiness to a small minority. However if you are going to have a well known individual as your hero, should it not be someone who has had an extreme positive influence on the world as a whole? Think Che Guevara, Martin Luther King Jr., Andrei Sakharov, Alex Fleming. These people have all changed the world for the better, though a lot of people in this modern day, would not even know who these people are. Instead, they know the names of people like David Beckham and Frank Lampard.
Real Heroes
My point is, should it really be the footballers getting the front page of the news paper, or the doctors and firemen? Think. What is wrong with the world today?
