Yes, it’s finally over. And the right man won in my opinion. I am glad Obama won the US presidential election, so I wrote a little section about the whole thing going on, on the BBC website. Enjoy!
I am also glad that Obama won, however I get greatly annoyed when people say that they wanted Obama to win, and when I ask “why?”, they don’t know. Obama’s going to be better for the US than McCain. McCain would have put tight law’s on the right’s of homosexuals, and would also (under the influence of the delightfully horrible Mrs. Palin) re-integrated the theory of creationism back into the educational system, which is wrong. Also, although abortion isn’t necessarily a good thing, McCain would of made it illegal for women to chose to abort their pregnancy. Finally, under Obama, people such as the lower middle class will be able to keep their health plans (as McCain would have raised the price). I think Obama could’ve done better when picking his V.P, he should of picked Hilary Clinton, instead of Biden. But he certainly didn’t do as poorly as McCain’s choosing. Good luck Obama! And get the US troops out of Iraq, and definitely don’t invade Iran and Pakistan! Good luck!

It’s the energy crisis. We’re wasting our earth away these days by using things like natural gas, coal and oil which are destroying the World. In general we need to stop using fossil fuels. They are extremely harmful on the environment, and aren’t even cost efficient. For instance, if we started using alternatives to fossil fuels, in America we could save 90% of the US’s greenhouse gas (carbon dioxide [CO2]) emissions in one year. Using alternatives could also reduce the emissions of dangerous pollutants such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide. And as I said, it costs way too much money to use. For instance, in the USA one barrel of oil will cost over $70. And although this price is falling greatly, due to the Economic Crisis, it is still a LOT of money.
I mentioned alternative, more efficient energy sources, renewable ones. For instance, we could be using wind, solar and hydroelectric to ensure that we don’t pollute the earth anymore. Also, they don’t cost as much as things like oil and coal, as the prices for a barrel of oil will continually increase. They will last longer than non-renewable energy, and they don’t give off all of the bad emissions that coal, natural gas and oil do. There’s hardly any carbon dioxide involved, no other harmful gases released. Another energy resource that would be much more efficient for us is Nuclear power. Also, it has such a higher power density than other energy forms, so it can provide energy for SO many more people.
Wasting energy is also a big problems. Gas bills could be reduced tenfold if people just started to do things like insulating their houses and fitting double glazed windows. Although this will cost money, you will make the money back by not having to pay as many energy bills. Or of course, you could just put on a jumper?
There are so many problems with energy today, but these can easily be solved. We already have the facilities to use renewable energy resources, we just need to get a grip on it. Come on governments of the World! Sort this out.
